A European 'photo on metal' guide must name each build. Bolot uses aluminium; Saal Digital and Pixum print directly on aluminium composite. WhiteWall publishes direct and mounted builds; MYPOSTER's US-facing page also lists direct, mounted-photo and fine-art options. Compare the exact build and checkout. Sources were checked on 20 July 2026.

“Photo on metal” is a search term. It does not tell you how a print is made. Two prints can share that label yet use different metals, image layers, surfaces and mounts.

This guide compares five services for a European brief. Saal Digital, WhiteWall and Pixum are supported here by UK pages; MYPOSTER facts come from a US-facing page and do not prove European availability. We checked the sources on 20 July 2026 and give no quality score without matched samples.

Start with one row and one named build. Do not compare the category names.

Bolot Studio: a focused aluminium photo range

Bolot Studio makes every print from your own photo:

  • Legacy Print wall prints: photo-only The Legacy Print Classic 30×20 cm and The Legacy Print Statement 42×30 cm formats.
  • The Keepsake Trio: three 13×9 cm desk prints with three separate metal stands, sold only as the complete desk set.
  • Cinematic Print: aluminium photo prints in 21×14, 30×20 and 42×30 cm wall-only formats, in portrait or landscape.
  • real-time 3D preview: image, crop, named size and finish on a virtual product.
  • mounting by format: every listed wall format uses the indoor magnetic kit; The Keepsake Trio uses its three desk stands.
Aluminium panels, colour references, a white glove and a landscape photo sample on a work surface

The photo print is aluminium. Bolot does not use DIBOND for Legacy or Cinematic prints. That composite is only used for the separate Address Sign.

Bolot photo prints are only for dry indoor display; no exterior or special-order version is available. The separate UV-laminated Address Sign is Bolot's only exterior product.

Saal Digital: direct UV printing on aluminium composite

Saal Digital’s metal-print page lists:

  • A composite panel with aluminium faces.
  • UV print straight onto the panel.
  • A matte finish.
  • Standard and custom sizes.
  • A mount that varies by product.

This may suit work that needs a custom size or a direct-printed composite. It is not the same as a single aluminium photo print.

WhiteWall: several builds under one category

WhiteWall’s metal-print overview lists several products. Some print straight onto composite. Others fix photo prints or fine-art papers to composite.

Some WhiteWall product pages list:

  • Made-to-measure formats.
  • Build-specific papers, seals and surfaces.
  • Included hanging that varies by product and size.
  • Wide frame choices.
  • Setup and image tools.

“WhiteWall metal print” does not name one build. Choose the exact WhiteWall product first.

MYPOSTER: direct, mounted-photo and fine-art options

MYPOSTER’s US-facing metal-print page lists:

  • UV print straight onto aluminium composite.
  • Photo paper fixed to composite.
  • Fine-art paper fixed to composite.
  • A six-colour direct UV process and custom sizes on selected products.

These US-scoped facts do not prove availability, price or delivery in Europe. The checked evidence does not support a broad outdoor-use claim; verify the exact configured product.

Pixum: matte direct printing on aluminium composite

Pixum’s UK aluminium-print page lists:

  • An aluminium-composite panel.
  • A direct seven-colour UV print.
  • A matte finish.
  • A fixed range of sizes.
  • A choice of wall hangers.

Pixum is another direct composite choice. Check its exact size, hanger and final total in the live design tool.

Construction map

Aluminium dye transfer

Colour is set into a prepared surface on an aluminium sheet. Bolot uses this process for its photo prints.

Direct UV on aluminium composite

Ink goes straight onto a composite panel and is cured. Saal Digital and Pixum list this build. MYPOSTER and WhiteWall also offer it in wider ranges.

Photo paper mounted on composite

First, the image is made as a photo print. It is then fixed to a stiff composite backing, often with a protective layer. WhiteWall and MYPOSTER offer this build.

Fine-art paper mounted on composite

A textured or specialist paper holds the image. The composite makes it stiff. This suits work where the paper’s own look matters.

Generic material names hide layers

Ask where the image is formed. Ask what the visible surface is, what holds it up, and which protective layer comes with it. “Aluminium” in a title does not answer all four.

Size and aspect ratio

A custom size can keep an odd aspect ratio, but it adds more choices. Named sizes are easier to order, though they may still need a crop.

Bolot formats are:

  • The Keepsake Trio: three 13×9 cm desk prints with three separate stands.
  • The Legacy Print Classic: 30×20 cm wall print.
  • The Legacy Print Statement: 42×30 cm wall print.
  • The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm) wall formats.

Before you pick a service:

  1. Identify the source aspect ratio.
  2. Decide what must stay in frame.
  3. Keep faces, hands and text away from the trim.
  4. Preview portrait and landscape options.
  5. Measure the chosen wall or desk spot.

Preview and colour decisions

A preview shows the crop, orientation, format and text choices. It cannot show the real surface texture or room reflections on every screen.

Use the original camera file. Avoid screenshots and squashed chat copies. Do not use files saved from social media. Check whether the seller adds auto correction, sharpening or upscaling.

For Bolot Studio, if a meaningful correction or alternative crop needs your decision, a proof is sent by email. You have up to five business days to respond. Without a reply, production uses the original crop submitted with the order, not the unapproved proposal.

Matte and glossy

Glossy can make contrast and reflections look stronger. In the same spot, matte can cut some harsh reflections.

No finish removes every reflection. A direct composite product may have one surface. A mounted-photo product may offer more. Check the exact product in the light where it will hang.

Mounting

These makers offer magnetic receivers, rails, hangers, posts, frames or stands. Check what is included and what is an add-on.

The Legacy Print Classic (30×20 cm), The Legacy Print Statement (42×30 cm), The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm) each include their own magnetic wall kit for a compatible dry indoor wall and can be hung exactly one minute after kit installation, following the supplied instructions. The Keepsake Trio is a separate desk set of exactly three 13×9 cm aluminium panels and three separate metal stands.

The Keepsake Trio is sold only as the complete 3-Pack and uses three separate included metal desk stands. It does not use the wall system above.

Indoor and outdoor use

Outdoor use depends on the exact product:

  • The build and visible surface.
  • UV protection.
  • Rain, sun and swings in temperature.
  • Risk of corrosion.
  • A mechanical or adhesive mount.

Bolot photo prints are only for dry indoor display. They are not exterior products.

Every Bolot Address Sign is a glossy, UV-laminated DIBOND product. Its order includes exactly one no-surcharge option: four mechanical standoffs for a compatible exterior façade, creating an approximately 20 mm wall gap, or non-magnetic adhesive/glue for a compatible exterior façade or indoor surface. No exact adhesive wait time is published.

Price and delivery

Do not use one size-based price range for every country. Instead:

  1. Set the actual build and size.
  2. Add finish, mount and frame.
  3. Enter the same destination.
  4. Compare tax and any import treatment shown.
  5. Compare the final totals to pay.
  6. Note the date and the arrival estimate.

An estimate can change with workload, destination and carrier limits. Use it as a rough plan unless the seller confirms a set date.

Personalised-order policy

A correctly made Bolot Studio print is not eligible for the voluntary change-of-mind return because it is personalised to the submitted image and approved order choices.

Verified quality support lets you report a manufacturing defect, transit damage, or wrong size, finish, or personalisation promptly after discovering the issue. This is an additional support channel only and does not shorten any applicable statutory period or remedy. A conforming personalised product is not eligible for a voluntary change-of-mind return. If Bolot approves a physical return, Bolot covers the return cost and provides instructions.

Read each competing seller’s current personalised-order and return terms separately.

Practical shortlist

  • Compare Bolot Studio for named aluminium photo formats, a real-time 3D preview and its magnetic wall or The Keepsake Trio desk workflow.
  • Compare Saal Digital for custom-size matte direct UV composite.
  • Compare WhiteWall for broad pro-lab builds, made-to-measure formats and frames.
  • Compare MYPOSTER for its direct, mounted-photo and fine-art composite variants.
  • Compare Pixum for its listed matte direct UV composite range.

The right service offers one exact build that fits the project. Check its crop, surface, size, mount, final total and delivery estimate. Without matched samples, a clear map of each range beats a “best overall” badge.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no single best process without an intended use and matched test. Aluminium dye transfer, direct UV printing on aluminium composite and photographic or fine-art layers mounted to composite create different products. Choose the construction, finish and mount that fit the image and location.

Do not apply one lifespan to every product in this category. Construction, ink or dye system, protective layer, light, moisture, handling and placement all matter. Read the named seller's product-specific statement and care instructions. Bolot Studio does not publish a fixed lifespan for its standard photo prints.

Glossy can make perceived contrast and reflections more pronounced. Matte can reduce distracting reflections compared with glossy in the same position, but no finish removes every reflection. Some direct composite products are only offered in a matte surface, so check the exact construction.

Saal Digital, WhiteWall and MYPOSTER publish custom-size options on selected metal or aluminium-composite products. Pixum publishes a broad fixed-size range for its aluminium print. Bolot Studio uses named fixed formats. Current limits depend on the chosen product and market.

No. Bolot Legacy and Cinematic photo prints use aluminium. DIBOND is used for Bolot Address Signs, a separate product with UV laminate and different mounting choices. Competing services in this guide independently publish various aluminium-composite products.

Bolot Studio wall photo formats include its indoor magnetic kit. Other services in this guide publish rails, hangers, posts or product-dependent wall systems. Compare what is included, what is optional and what wall or tools the selected system needs.

Configure the same intended size, construction, surface and mount on the same date. Enter the actual destination and compare final totals including tax, delivery and any import treatment shown. Do not preserve promotional starting prices in a long-lived comparison.
